Letter  •

Dear Colleagues,

I am very excited to announce that the University of Denver has appointed Uttiyo Raychaudhuri, Ph.D., to the role of Vice Provost for Internationalization. Uttiyo is thrilled to become a part of the DU community and looks forward to joining us on January 1.

Uttiyo joins DU from Cornell University, where he served as the first executive director in the Office of Global Learning, providing leadership and vision for the university in global learning, study abroad, faculty-directed courses and programs, and international immigration and support services. Prior to his work at Cornell, Uttiyo also served as director of Clemson Abroad at Clemson University. There he successfully advocated for high-impact, evidence-based academic and global engagement as a key foundation of the school’s strategic plan.

Uttiyo will be the primary advocate for the University’s internationalization efforts and he is charged with leading the University on internationalization programs, partnerships and services, as well as developing and implementing DU’s comprehensive internationalization agenda. Additionally, Uttiyo will manage a large and complex set of units including the English Language Center, International Student and Scholar Services, and the Office of International Education.

Uttiyo brings to the Provost’s Office novel approaches to strategic planning and management of education abroad mobility. Utilizing his extensive internationalization experience, he will work closely with international students and leadership to enhance the international student experience. I firmly believe Uttiyo, with his enterprising spirit, will advance what we already do well in study abroad and strategic partnerships, while also creating innovative solutions to address national challenges in international student recruitment for all types of programs.

I would like to thank the members of the search committee who played an instrumental role in ensuring the success of filling this vital position. Chaired by Jennifer Karas, vice provost for academic affairs, members of the committee were:

  • Casey Dinger – Interim Vice Provost for Internationalization
  • John Gudvangen – Associate Vice Chancellor for Financial Aid
  • Michael Keables – Chair of the Department of Geography
  • Lori Reynolds – Assistant Dean of Graduate Legal Studies
  • Ethel Swartley –Teaching Associate Professor, English Language Center

The search committee, representing areas across our campus community, was charged with vetting candidates for the position of the vice provost of internationalization who have the experience, skills, and vision to successfully serve the University of Denver. They were also committed to ensuring the pool of candidates remained diverse throughout the search process.

On behalf of the Provost’s Office, I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to Casey Dinger, who has served as interim in this role since September. His broad knowledge of ongoing programs and initiatives within internationalization benefitted the university through this period of transition. Casey will continue to play a strong leadership role in the Office of Internationalization as academic director for internationalization.

Best regards,

Corinne Lengsfeld
