Dear DU community members,

Today marks the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. For many, this anniversary is a solemn reminder of a defining moment in our history. It is a day of national grieving—for those taken that day, for the families and loved ones whose lives were irreparably changed, and for all the life lost since in service of our country.

It is also a day of gratitude. We are deeply grateful to first responders, that day and always, who courageously run toward scenes of violence and devastation. We are grateful to our service men and women, who put their own lives in harm’s way so we may be safe. And we are deeply grateful to our fellow Americans, with whom we share this country and its grandest dreams and values.

Today, DU will toll its bells 22 times at 6:46 a.m. (MT), marking the time when the first plane hit the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City (8:46 a.m. ET). I hope you are able to take time to pause in a moment of solemnity and gratitude.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Haefner
