To the DU Community,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank every member of the DU on-campus community – students, faculty, and staff--for your courageous, clear-headed, and compassionate stance regarding your reaction to the COVID-19 global pandemic that is enveloping us. I would also like to thank our friends, families and loved ones who have been patient and gracious through this difficult time.

In such a fast-moving crisis it is almost impossible to know what to do at every turn, but I want to tell you that we are committed to doing the right thing, to pivoting quickly when circumstances warrant, and to protecting our community and the country from uncontrolled escalation of the disease.

These are unprecedented times and call for unprecedented action. We are each in the process of making both tough personal decisions and decisions for the good of our community. I cannot thank our students, faculty, and staff enough for stepping up to this challenge 24/7 right now. Your passion, your commitment, and your strength are a beacon for us all.

We are making difficult decisions, but the work of DU is of prime importance, and we will continue to do that work together, remotely, innovatively, respectful of our differences, dedicated to our spirit and in every way we can.

We are strong. We are caring. We are resilient. We are compassionate. We are DU. We are unafraid to make the right, if difficult, decisions. You will be getting further communications from me and from other members of the senior leadership team, today and throughout this week. I want to thank you for paying careful attention to each message, and to complying with them, even as they evolve. Please continue to check the DU COVID-19 website for updates and answers to frequently asked questions.

I want to personally thank you for putting anxieties to the side, and focusing on the good of our community, country, and planet. I have never been so proud of each of you as I am right now.

Be well. Stay strong.
