Chester M Alter Arboretum

The University of Denver is home to the Chester M Alter Arboretum. This collection of over 2,000 trees representing over 240 species and several state champion trees is a key campus resource. Care for this resource carries over to all grounds maintenance, where water use is carefully tracked. Water is provided through an efficient system of drip and sprinklers, with close monitoring for leaks. During times of drought, watering frequency is reduced around the perimeter of campus, and irrigation source water is drawn from a well to reduce the demand on potable water. Increasingly, campus landscaping around buildings is moving towards low-water use plantings.
