Our Mission

The Center for Ethical AI (CEAI) at the University of Denver advances interdisciplinary research, education, and applied strategy to ensure generative AI is developed and deployed responsibly. We bridge AI efforts across campus, industry, policymakers, and community partners to promote sustainable, equitable, and public good–focused innovation.

CEAI Leadership

As a University-wide interdisciplinary collaboration, CEAI is being led by Professor Mohammed Albow and Professor Bruce Klaw in alignment with the University’s AI Steering Committee and supported by a talented cohort of CEAI Fellows from across the University.

Bruce Klaw 

Professor Bruce Klaw is Assistant Dean for Societal Impact and Chair of the Department of Business Ethics & Legal Studies at the Daniels College of Business.  He directs the Business Ethics & Legal Studies minor at Daniels and is co-director of the joint Korbel-Daniels graduate certificate in Global Business and Corporate Social Responsibility.

He holds degrees from Harvard Law School and Binghamton University in Philosophy, Politics and Law. His research lies at the crossroads of business, law, ethics, and public policy. Among other areas in law and ethics, Klaw researches and teaches on the ethics and governance of artificial intelligence. His scholarship has been published in numerous top journals, including the Harvard Journal on Legislation, the Journal of Business Ethics, the Berkeley Journal of International Law, William and Mary Business Law Review, the Journal of Corporate Citizenship, and the Journal of Legal Studies Education. His awards include the Hoeber Memorial Award for Excellence in Research from the Academy of Legal Studies in Business and the C. Thomas Howard Innovative Teacher Award from his peers at Daniels.  An energetic and collaborative leader, Klaw has spearheaded impactful initiatives at Daniels including the Sustainable Business Symposium, Ethics Matters Speaker Series, Legal Accelerator for Student Entrepreneurs, and the Global Societal Impact and Social Entrepreneurship student immersion experience.

Mohammed Albow 

Professor Mohammed Albow is co-chair of the Department of Computer Science at the Ritchie School of Engineering and Computer and an associate teaching professor. His research during graduate studies at the University of Denver was in theoretical computer science, computational geometry, and computer science education.

CEAI Fellows

Each year, CEAI invites a select group of the University’s top faculty and staff to formally become CEAI Fellows. These fellows represent a diverse sample of the University community who are enthusiastically working on key aspects of ethical AI as it relates to research, teaching and learning, co-curricular activities, community engagement, student careers, and faculty/staff professional development.
