Higher-Risk Destinations

All DU travelers are highly encouraged to research all destinations to which they will travel. DU's Travel Intelligence Portal is an excellent resource for location intelligence: https://crisis24horizon.com/du/ Log in using your DU credentials. 

DU's elevated-risk destinations are a unique list of countries, provinces, cities, and threat zones. The list is informed by Crisis24's location analysis, government intelligence, federal laws, current events, and limitations of insurance or capabilities to assist. This list can change suddenly and often. If a location becomes restricted during planning, travelers may be asked to adjust accordingly at their own expense. If an impactful change occurs while abroad, travelers may be asked to return to the U.S. as soon as safely possible. 

If transiting through a High or Extreme destination, you can do so without requesting travel authorization unless you are staying more than 24 hours in the airport or are planning to leave the airport for any amount of time.

When a City is listed with no Province, it is only the City which is considered elevated-risk. A Province may encapsulate one or more Cities; thereby, all are elevated-risk. 

Definitions of risk ratings:

High Travel Risk: The operating environment is hostile, and there are significant threats to business, personal safety, and/or travel that require comprehensive mitigation and planning.

Extreme Travel Risk: The operating environment is characterized by pervasive, direct threats to business, personal safety, and/or travel that require strict risk management procedures.

Threat Zone: Threat Zones represent identified areas of higher threat relative to the overall baseline threat of the location. Inter-city Threat Zones are not listed here but can be found using the World Map feature in the Travel Intelligence Portal.
