The DU Newsroom is bringing back our popular summer series, DU Field Notes. We are setting out to introduce readers to the world outside campus by exploring Denver and the near beyond.

Staying connected and socializing looks a little different this summer, thanks to the coronavirus pushing our interactions online. We found ways to stay connected with DU virtually during this time of social distancing. Check out these social media accounts:

Mile High and Hungry

1. MileHighandHungry

Looking for a good place to eat? DU students Haley Paez and Mirjana Profeta run the Instagram account Mile High and Hungry. Their mouthwatering feed has food recommendations around the Denver area with everything from BBQ to poke bowls and even ice cream tacos.

2. OrgoChemist  

Sacha Toussaint is a PhD candidate in organic chemistry. His popular Instagram account features his work in the lab at DU. His account even made the list of “7 of the best Instagram accounts to follow for chemistry-lovers.”

3. @profalankchen

This Sturm College of Law professor is a leading national expert in First Amendment Law, specifically free speech. Follow his Twitter account for his law commentary and his love of baseball. Plus, he recently went viral for his tweet discovering Microsoft Word decided two spaces after a period is incorrect.

4. UofDenverCampus

Stay up-to-date with what’s happening on DU’s campus and virtually by following DU Campus Life on Instagram. The official Campus Life & Inclusive Excellence account features upcoming webinars, highlights outstanding students and posts ways to get involved.

5. @BillFishExpert

Follow the work of DU post-doctoral fellow and marine biologist Isigi Kadagi on Twitter. She is a fisheries scientist and conversation leader. Her work was recently featured in Forbes, and she was named director of conservation leadership and the education for nature program at World Wildlife Fund.

6. SquirrelsofDU

Missing campus? Check out the pictures and videos submitted of the squirrels at DU. It’s an account dedicated to spotting the squirrels hanging out on campus. You're bound to fall in love with the squirrels dining on a miniature picnic table!


7. RGalemba

Rebecca Galemba is more than just an assistant professor at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies. She uses her Instagram account to feature the sidewalk chalk art she’s created during quarantine. Take a peek at her drawings, including one of DU’s Sie Complex.  

8. BobbyLeFebre

Check out the work of Colorado’s poet laureate and DU alumnus Bobby LeFebre on Instagram. Follow him on his journey over the next four years as Colorado’s youngest poet laureate ever. The spoken-word artist shares poems, upcoming events and more on his social media pages.

9. @smotus

If you’re looking for a witty take on the top political headlines, follow political science professor Seth Masket on Twitter. He is director of DU's Center on American Politics, a regular contributor to FiveThirtyEight and served in the White House Office of Correspondence during the Clinton Administration.

10. @DU_Chancellor

Last but not least, follow the University of Denver’s Chancellor Jeremy Haefner on Twitter. He provides campus updates, highlights faculty work and posts the occasional picture of his dog, Gromit.
