(Nov. 19, 2012) From Scott Lumpkin, Vice Chancellor - University Advancement

It is with great sadness I am writing to inform you that our dear friend and colleague, Bob Mesko, passed away on Friday afternoon after a long fight with cancer.

Bob came to DU in 2008 with more than 12 years of national and international fundraising experience. Born in Bratislava, Slovakia, Bob was raised in New York City where he graduated from Columbia University with a degree in international relations. The fall of communism attracted Bob back to Slovakia, where he co-founded Bratislava Dance Theater, the country's first professional modern dance company. Before joining DU's advancement team he served as director of development for the Colorado Symphony.

Bob was a great asset to the University in his role as director of development, and was particularly engaged with fundraising efforts for the Newman Center for the Performing Arts and the Lamont School of Music. His tremendous dedication, great passion for the arts, and love for life are just a few of the qualities that we will miss. Bob died at the age of 49 and is survived by his loving wife, Natalie, and their beautiful daughter, Vivienne.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 10 a.m. at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, 2200 S. Harrison St. There will be a reception to follow at Parish Center. There will also be a visitation on Monday, Nov. 19, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Horan and McConaty Funeral Home, 1091 S. Colorado Blvd.

Bob touched many lives across our campus and the greater Denver community. He will be missed deeply.

(Nov. 14, 2012) RTD Smart Card update

RTD will be switching to a Smart Card system for buses and light rail in January. The DU Transportation Center and Pioneer ID Card Office had hoped to have cards available by now, but there has been a delay due to supply problems.

It's expected that Smart Cards will be available for faculty and benefited staff by the beginning of December and for eligible students at the beginning of January. These dates are tentative and based on when the card supplies become available.

DU is working with RTD to ensure that there is no gap in access to RTD services for eligible students, staff and faculty.

See our FAQ about Smart Cards for more information.
