Academic Support Services
(Jan. 29, 2013) Academic Support Services under one roof
The Anderson Academic Commons will feature dedicated spaces for the following services, designed to be grouped, and deeply collaborated, for students and faculty.
The Office of Teaching and Learning
The Office of Teaching and Learning offers faculty information and training in methods to be more effective teachers, and innovative ways to synthesize technology into courses and academic research. A suite of eleven offices will make up the Office of Teaching & Learning in the Academic Commons. Visit them online.
The Shopneck Writing Center supports and promotes effective writing by offering free, one-on-one consultations which offer writers collaborative advice on writing and the writing process. Students, faculty, and staff can schedule appointments to work with experienced, friendly consultants on academic writing for any class; personal writing, such as application essays, business letters, resumes; and multimodal writing, such as websites and PowerPoints. Visit them online.
The Crossley Research Center offers expert guidance through the research process: from refining a topic, to finding and evaluating relevant sources, to creating a bibliography. A Research Center consultation session can ease anxiety about a project or paper, and teach research and evaluation skills for life-long learning. The Crossley Research Center has added a consultation space to accommodate groups, has enlarged the Research Instruction Room and will offer about fifteen more computers than at Penrose, with newer technology. Visit them online.
The Math Center offers free, drop-in assistance for Algebra, Trigonometry, Business Calculus, and Calculus I, II and III classes. Students are welcome to visit the Math Center for support in learning new concepts, reviewing prerequisites, studying for quizzes or exams, or completing homework assignments. Math Center staff work with individual students or groups of students to build understanding and skills that will help them succeed in their math courses. The Math Center will experience the most dramatic spatial change; the new space is much bigger with white boards on the walls. Visit them online.
The UTS Help Center's purpose is to educate and empower the user, providing quality technical support across the University of Denver community. Support includes phone, email, online and walk-in computer support, for hardware and software, for all faculty, staff and students at DU. All services will be housed at the new UTS help desk in the Anderson Academic Commons. Visit them online.
The Digital Media Center is a completely new service at the University of Denver. It empowers patrons to understand new and emerging digital technologies by promoting the use of digital media in academic and creative projects on and off campus. Mediated support sessions will be available to gain a better understanding of the Media Center capabilities and function in direct relation to the patrons' project(s).
