VOLUNTEER FOR DENVER DAYS @ DU!

Aug. 4-8
(July 22, 2014) From Gregg Kvistad, Provost – The University of Denver is participating in Denver Days Aug. 4-8, 2014, in an expression of our commitment to the public good. Launched by Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock, Denver Days is a citywide effort to become involved in our communities. At DU, we are providing a week of service opportunities in which you may participate, with an ice cream social at the end of the week for all volunteers. You will be able to add your hours to the 1864 Service Challenge, moving us toward the goal of a combined 186,400 hours of total University community service by the end of 2014.

The Sesquicentennial volunteer committee is providing a variety of opportunities during that week for you as individuals, and more importantly, as units to become engaged in this project. This is a wonderful opportunity for the University of Denver to demonstrate its participation in community outreach. If you recall, the University has allowed for one in-service day in which vacation does not have to be claimed. If you have not used that day, we encourage you to do so.

To see the list of activities, dates, and times, please click on https://udenver.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_7PAopl0BXziJxxr or contact Aimee Neu in Human Resources at aimee.neu@du.edu for additional information.

DU in the news – Title IX

(July 8, 2014) Sometimes when the University of Denver is in the news, the topic raises divergent points of view. You may have seen a recent story about a Title IX lawsuit against the University. This lawsuit was filed by the same person who filed a claim with the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights late last year. Title IX regulations require that the University follows grievance procedures providing for the prompt and equitable resolution of sex discrimination complaints. Title IX processes are designed to be fair to all parties; they are also designed to impose disciplinary action when appropriate. In each instance, the University conducts a fact-finding review based on administrative processes. After this review, University officials make a factual determination. We are confident that we handle all instances fairly, appropriately and accurately. We hold a zero tolerance policy for sexual assault at DU. Visit DU's Office of Equal Opportunity's website for more information.

Register your unit for Pioneer Carnival 2014

Saturday, Sept. 13, 12:30-2:30 p.m. – Gates Fieldhouse
(July 8, 2014) It's almost that time of year again here at DU – Pioneer Carnival! Pioneer Carnival has historically been a part of new student orientation; this year, we have decided to move the event to the first weekend after classes begin so that returning students may access the resources as well. This is a great way for your department to advertise services and resources.

We invite your organization to participate on Saturday, Sept. 13 (setup begins at 11 a.m.), and set up a booth with giveaways, samples, coupons, or other items of interest. You may request up to two tables per organization for this event, but this request may not be honored if we do not have enough space.

You are welcome to provide information, samples and special offers about your goods and services, but you may not open any accounts or sell any merchandise at the event. Our goal is to provide students with a variety of options and information about the goods and services available to them on and around campus without them having to make immediate decisions or spend any money at the event.

Please register online. Space is limited and assigned on a first-come, first-served basis; please sign up to reserve your space as soon as possible. The registration deadline is Friday, Aug. 29, and information about setup, etc., will be emailed to the contact listed on the registration form the week of Sept. 1.

Please contact getinvolved@du.edu with any questions that you have about Pioneer Carnival.

ASCEND Campaign: Most successful in University history

ascend logo(July 1, 2014) On June 30, 2014, ASCEND: The Campaign for the University of Denver came to a close, marking the conclusion of the most successful fundraising campaign in the University’s history. During the eight-year campaign, alumni, faculty, staff and friends of the University made gifts of all sizes, totaling more than $480 million in support of priorities across campus that both enhance the student experience and strengthen the University for the long term.

Faculty and staff were vital to the success of the campaign, with a participation rate of around 30 percent each year. The annual faculty and staff campaign launched as part of ASCEND, and it will continue to be an important element of philanthropy at the University even beyond ASCEND.

Support for scholarships was a hallmark of the ASCEND campaign, resulting in 576 new scholarships. This student support enables the University to recruit the brightest individuals from a variety of backgrounds. Many gifts to scholarships were matched dollar-for-dollar through the scholarship matching program initiated by the Board of Trustees in 2010.

Alumni, faculty, staff, parents and friends of the University also strengthened the student experience during ASCEND by their gifts to innovative spaces like Anderson Academic Commons as well as to programs and faculty support.

The University’s endowment more than doubled to nearly $450 million during ASCEND, a noteworthy milestone within the eight-year campaign. A strong endowment, coupled with increasing numbers of alumni participating in the life of the University, indicates significant stability as the University anticipates the opportunities of the coming decades.
