THIRD ANNUAL "NEW BEGINNINGS" POWWOW – MAY 19, 1-6 P.M.

Dancers perform at the 2011 Powwow.In Native American communities, a powwow is a social gathering, a time when dance and music honor the resilient cultural history of Native American people and tradition. A powwow encompasses a variety of educational experiences including history and art. During the powwow, a brief history and information of each performance will be presented. This vibrant display of American Indian culture is offered free and open to the public on the Driscoll Green.

This Just In

Film screening: The Dream is Now – May 22, 6:30 p.m.

(May 15, 2013) The Dream is Now is a documentary that follows four undocumented youth in America and focuses on the personal stories of dreamers and their families. It calls for common sense reform that gives all undocumented immigrants the chance to earn their citizenship and contribute fully to society.

Please join the Upsilon Gamma Chapter of Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity as they host the first Denver screening of The Dream is Now on campus.

If you are interested in federal comprehensive immigration reform, if you want to learn more about it, or if this systemic issue has affected you and your loved ones-- come share your story. The film screening will take place on Wednesday, May 22 at 6:30 p.m. in Davis Auditorium, Sturm Hall. A panel discussion will follow. This event is expected to sell out; please reserve your free tickets here in advance.

DU 2013 spring commencement speakers announced

(May 14, 2013) International peacekeeper and United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Michael B. Hancock, mayor of the city of Denver, will address graduate and undergraduate students, respectively, at this year's commencement ceremonies. U.S. Senator Michael Bennet will address the Sturm College of Law graduates. Read their biographies here.


Renew or purchase your 2013-2014 parking permit by this Friday!

(May 14, 2013) If you want to continue to park in your current restricted parking lot, renew now! Permits not renewed by this Friday, May 17, will be offered to those on the waitlist. To purchase or renew your permit log in to your parking account. Visit the Parking and Transportation website for more information.


It's that time of year again: high school graduations come to DU and may affect your parking

(May 14, 2013) Current parking permit holders: once again it is time for DU to host the area's high school graduations. Some of these events have the potential to make parking an issue on the north side of campus.

Erica Chenoweth receives advance grant for work on counterterrorism

Erica Chenoweth(May 14, 2013) Erica Chenoweth, an assistant professor at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies, has received a $20,000 advance grant, given by the National Science Foundation to promote scholarship by women. The grant will facilitate Chenoweth's research on the impact of positive rhetoric in reducing terrorist activity.

Open enrollment closes tomorrow, May 15

(May 14, 2013) Benefited employees: if you plan to enroll or make changes to your current benefits, you must do so by 11:59 p.m. May 15. Remember, some plans require re-enrollment so please read your benefits overview carefully. Use this online how-to guide to navigate through open enrollment. Still have questions? Offerings for everyone!

(May 14, 2013) While open enrollment applies only to benefited employees, several vendors who offer discounts to all DU employees had booths at last week's Benefits Fair. There was also a booth for the DU Zone Card, a DU Athletics program that gives you access to a growing list of vendor discounts for cardholders. DU Digest will be providing more information on the subject of DU employee and DU Zone Card discounts in the coming months, so stay tuned!

Wellness Counts – last chance

(May 14, 2013) Benefited employees: tomorrow, May 15 before 11:59 p.m., is your last chance to complete the Wellness Counts program. This means all of your required preventive screenings and the online Total Health Assessment (THA) must be complete to earn the insurance premium incentive. Contact Katie.Dunker@du.edu with questions. Note: If you are a new employee (hired before May 25, 2013) or enrolling in KP for the first time through open enrollment, you only need to complete the THA. Paper copies are available in HR (Mary Reed 403).


Gardening workshop: Getting ready to grow – May 16, noon - 1 p.m.

(May 14, 2013) Prepare your garden for growing. We'll discuss mulching, watering and soil. We'll even start planting seedlings from the on-campus greenhouse during the workshop.

DU's first farmer's market – May 23, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.

(May 14, 2013) Driven by the DU Environmental Team with help from the Center for Sustainability and Sodexo, DU's first farmer's market will take place on the Driscoll Green next week! Come by and support sustainable, local food sold by Grower's Organic, Colorado Aquaponics and Sodexo.

This inaugural event is made possible by the DU Environmental Team, the Center for Sustainability and Sodexo.
