Alumnus Phil Vaughn honors Margret Korzus with flag at U.S. Capitol
(July 9, 2013) Margret Korzus, retired associate dean of admission, has been connected to DU for nearly 47 years. She was an undergraduate student here when Mrs. Lyndon B. Johnson planted the Pin Oak tree by Evans Chapel. She was here the day President Kennedy was assassinated (and graduated the day after). She returned to pursue her PhD, teach English, work in the Office of Communication and finally land in the Admission Office.
Alumnus Phil Vaughn served as a volunteer for DU's admission office to help recruit students, where he became acquainted with Margret, who was the admission staff member responsible for organizing and training volunteers at the time. Upon her retirement this year, Phil arranged for a flag to fly for one day at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., in her honor. He presented her with the flag at her retirement reception last month.
