Half the Sky* Fair – request for silent auction donations

(Sept. 23, 2013) The fourth annual Half the Sky* Fair to benefit the education of girls and women - locally and across the globe - will be held at the Colorado Women's College on Oct. 26. Organizers are currently seeking donations to the silent auction, in the form of goods or services. If you would like to make a donation or help with the event, please visit the Portfolio site.

*The fair is inspired by the best-selling book Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn.

Daniels College of Business Voices of Experience kicks off in October

(Sept. 17, 2013) Joe Ellis, president of the Denver Broncos will kick off this speaker series on Oct. 17, and Tom Kelley, bestselling author and co-founder of IDEO will speak on Nov. 19. Voices of Experience is free and open to the public; registration is required.

16th Annual Korbel Dinner sets new fundraising record

(Sept. 10, 2013) Last night, the 16th Annual Korbel Dinner's sold out crowd of more than 1,100 guests helped raise over $670,000, setting a new record for the most amount raised by the School on a single night. As shared by Dean Christopher Hill in an email to all faculty and staff earlier today, the funds raised benefit the School's programs, scholarships and centers, which are designed to serve the School's students and the community at large.


Campus Safety offers R.A.D. classes for women and men this fall

(Sept. 10, 2013) R.A.D. (Rape Aggression Defense) Systems is a self-defense class designed to develop and enhance self-defense options so they become viable for people being attacked. R.A.D. Courses for both men and women are offered in September, October and November. See the course schedule and register for your class.

R.A.D. for men

Campus Safety is now offering R.A.D. for men classes. R.A.D. for men stands for "Resisting Aggression with Defense." Participants will have the opportunity to raise their awareness of aggressive behavior, recognize how aggressive behavior impacts their lives, learn steps to avoid aggressive behavior, consider how they can be part of reducing aggression and violence, and practice hands-on self-defense skills to resist and escape aggressive behavior directed toward them. This program is designed to empower participants to make safer choices when confronted with aggressive behavior.

R.A.D. for women

R.A.D for women has its foundations in education and awareness. The course includes lecture, discussion and self-defense techniques suitable for women of all ages and abilities. Please see the video about the R.A.D. for women class at DU.

Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning (CCESL) Open House – Sept. 17, 4:30-6:30 p.m., Driscoll suites 6, 18, and 22

(Sept. 10, 2013) CCESL is offering opportunities for faculty, staff and students to learn about community-engaged work and advice on applying for funding and trainings including student employment positions, faculty grants and workshops, volunteer opportunities and other ways to get involved in your community.

Sing at DU – auditions Sept. 9-10

(Sept. 3, 2013) Did you know you don't have to be a student to sing in a choir at DU? Faculty and staff are welcome to audition. Connect with your DU community and add some singing to your schedule. There are different choirs for different skill levels, so everyone from new singers to highly competitive performers can find the right fit.

Open auditions are Sept. 9 -10 in Newman Center room 411. Contact Catherine Sailer,, for more information about how to get involved with the Lamont Chorale, Lamont Women's Chorus or Lamont Men's Choir.

(Aug. 20, 2013) Browse around the updated University Libraries website, redesigned to highlight new services and resources available in the Anderson Academic Commons.

DU Portfolio and Blackboard upgrades

(Aug. 6, 2013) The Office of Teaching and Learning has upgraded both the DU Portfolio system and Blackboard. While basic functionality will remain the same, you are encouraged to learn more.

The DU Portfolio system has been completely rebuilt to adapt to the most recent changes in technology. All of your data from the old system has been migrated; please take some time to edit your portfolio(s) as certain items are represented differently in the new system to allow for this more modern, responsive design.

DU is now running an updated version of Blackboard that includes several new features such as a content editor, calendar, discussion forum and grading tool.

You're encouraged to attend one of the workshops offered by the Office of Teaching and Learning before the fall quarter begins to learn about these new features in Blackboard or to get acquainted with the basic tools.
