Thanks to the University of Denver and several bike-friendly programs, you can now gear up and ease your fears! Denver GEARS (Get Energized And Ride Sustainably), an interactive website and mobile resource, connects beginner riders with safe routes, bike repair pit stops, advice from experienced "GEARS gurus" and more.

Bike to work day is June 26!

(June 18, 2013) Join your colleagues next Wednesday for Bike to Work day! DU is hosting a station on the Driscoll Green that will make your ride worth it. Sign up for Bike to Work day here, and be sure to select DU as your "company affiliation." From there you can join group rides, map your route, and find stations and events along the way.

Cruise straight onto the Driscoll Green between 6:30-9 a.m. for breakfast:

There will also be tons of fun activities, swag and prizes:

"Bike to Work Day encapsulates everything the University of Denver and its employees stand for —healthy living, sustainable transportation and building community," says Alex Mehn, communications manager for Transportation Solutions (Transportation Solutions in a local nonprofit transportation management agency that operates the transportation center on campus). "This breakfast station represents a unique collaboration of local businesses, nonprofits and the campus community and is one you definitely don't want to miss."

On-campus showers

(June 11, 2013) Would you like to bike to work but don't want to arrive disheveled? There are several showers on campus available for faculty and staff use.

Free breakfast for bike commuters every Wednesday in June!

(June 4, 2013) Bike commuters and National Bike Challenge participants: come to the Nagel Hall patio June 5, 12 and 19 between 7:30 and 9 a.m. for a free, tasty breakfast hosted by well@du and the Center for Sustainability. On June 26, a special Bike to Work Day breakfast will take place on the Driscoll Green.

On-campus bike fixtation and mechanic

(June 4, 2013) Did you know that there is a bike "fixtation" on the south side of Nagel Hall available for use by the entire DU community? If you need a quick fix and know just a little about bikes, the fixtation is the place for you! Simply mount your bike and use the tools attached, or scan the QR code on the fixtation with your smartphone to find instructions on how to make simple repairs. There's also a pump so you can fill up that flat tire. The fixtation is there for you 24 hours per day, free of charge.

DU bike mechanic

If your bike needs attention beyond what the fixtation can provide (or if you just want a pro to fix it), visit DU's free mobile bike mechanic! He's taking a break over the summer, but follow the Center for Sustainability on Facebook to see exactly where and what time he's on campus in the fall.

Join the National Bike Challenge

(May 28, 2013) DU is currently No. 2 in the leaderboard of all National Bike Challenge participants across the nation! If you're one of the more than 85 people who have signed up, keep on logging your rides and let's move up to first! If you haven't signed up, do so here (be sure to select University of Denver as your employer).
