A Decade of Sport Success

“A Legacy in the Making: a Decade in Review” is a chronicle highlighting DU's athletic success from 2007-2017, written as our athletics program celebrates 150 years. In that time we won seven national championships, nine D1-AAA Directors’ Cups and fostered extensive individual success from 164 All-Americans and seven Olympians.

Global Grand Challenges

Eleven DU undergraduates attended the 2017 Global Grand Challenges Summit at George Washington University, more than any other institution in attendance. The summit aims to inspire the next generation of engineers and policymakers to address critical engineering challenges and opportunities facing our planet.

Climate Change Resolution

The DU Board of Trustees endorsed a resolution encouraging new actions and backing continued efforts at embracing sustainability and addressing climate change. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions will be the focus of efforts to manage the built environment, energy and water usage, and dining and transportation operations.

Examining Politics

DU established the Center on American Politics to help understand the changing standards of the nation’s political system and facilitate political scholarship. Over the course of the 2017 academic year, research will focus on interpreting what happened in the 2016 election and what that could mean for future elections.

Hospice Honors Professor

The Denver Hospice plans to recognize Peter Van Arsdale for his work as a co-founder and for his efforts to raise funds for its partner hospice in Arusha, Tanzania. Van Arsdale is director of DU’s African Initiatives project and an adjunct professor in the Josef Korbel School of International Studies.

Improving Government

The Colorado Evaluation and Action Lab, housed at our Barton Institute, will work to evaluate public policies, make design improvements and pilot new interventions. The lab is part of an ongoing effort to make the Colorado state government more effective and to ensure that taxpayer dollars are spent wisely.

Craig Patrick Honored

DU alum and hockey legend Craig Patrick received an honor as one of 2017's distinguished alumni. Success marks his career in hockey at every level. Winner of two NCAA championships, Stanley Cups and Olympic medals, Patrick is best known as an assistant coach for the 1980 "Miracle on Ice" Olympic hockey team.

DU Wins Directors' Cup

For the fifth consecutive year and the ninth time in 10 years, the DU Pioneers won the Learfield Sports DI-AAA Directors' Cup. The annual award recognizes the nation’s best overall collegiate athletics program, and points are given based on each institution’s finish in up to 20 sports.
