DU Gymnast Wins Title

University of Denver gymnast Nina McGee finished her record-breaking career in the most fitting way possible — winning DU’s first NCAA gymnastics title. “I just keep smiling,” McGee said. “I feel honored. My goal has always been to win floor or the all-around at Nationals. I’m kind of at a loss for words.”

New Student-Built App

If you need a ride to your favorite ski resort, there’s now an app for that. DU students Meredith Gee and Sam Schooler developed Wanderlift, a ride-sharing app for adventure lovers.

Discovering True Passion

DU grad Celia Smits intended to pursue a career as a doctor, but she found a passion for discovery after getting involved in scientific research. “I just fell in love with it and decided it wasn’t something I wanted to quit doing,” Smits says. She intends to become a professor after finishing her studies.

Sustainability in Alaska

As part of an interterm course, a group of University of Denver students traveled to Alaska to study sustainable decision making and the effects of climate change. Students explored how these issues affect Alaska, the rights and values of its indigenous people and outside interests like oil companies.

Classes for Working Pros

Our Center for Professional Development (CPD) provides programming for local working professionals looking to further their careers. Most often, courses are geared toward educators, mental health providers and those in legal professions so they can improve their skills and maintain licensure.

Building Smarter Cities

DU, along with other project partners, is researching how to move away from legacy electric power grids and focus on consumer-deployed technologies within a smart grid to promote sustainability and security.

Support for Interns

Our Career Center Summer Internship Award provides $2,500 to cover daily expenses of students who pursue unpaid internships in their field. The award helps students gain relevant work experience and improve job prospects, while freeing them from the financial stress that often comes with unpaid positions.

Undergrads Found Company

DU undergrads Will Alverson and Julia Farrell are using their skills in computer science and business to support Denver's art scene. They created their own company, Artspark, which provides resources to support the sharing and promotion of local art. They hope to expand into other cities down the line.

Preventing Drug Abuse

College campuses face the difficult challenge of how to help students struggling with alcohol and substance abuse, and how to prevent that abuse from happening in the first place. It’s this challenge that led Denver resident Marilyn Girouard to join the alcohol and drug prevention efforts of DU’s Health & Counseling Center.

DU Prof. Helps Victims

Professor Anne DePrince, director of the Center for Community Engagement to advance Scholarship & Learning, is working with her students to help victims of domestic violence. DePrince's studies focus on community-coordinated solutions, particularly the effect of outreach on both victim well-being and criminal justice outcomes.
