DU Supports PrideFest

For the 10th consecutive year, we stood together with Colorado's LGBTQIA population at Denver's PrideFest, welcoming hundreds to our booth. One visitor — an alum from the 1950s — attended with his longtime partner and discussed his joy at seeing DU supporting our LGBTQIA students.

Japanese Teachers Program

The Japanese Teachers Program is a joint collaboration between University College and the Japanese Ministry of Education intended to promote cultural exchange. Every year, a group of 12 to 15 Japanese junior and high school teachers travel to Denver to spend eight weeks on DU’s campus improving their English skills.

Move-In Day

More than 1,400 first-year students and their parents, along with 160 transfer students, crowded our campus for move-in day in preparation for a new academic year. Incoming students represented 48 states and 20 different countries. The majority traveled more than 500 miles to come to DU, and 66 percent came from out of state.

First-Year Seminar

Each first-year student registers for a first-year seminar. The classes cover topics from Beyoncé and millennial feminism to a journey through the fractal universe. First-year seminars begin during orientation week. At the end of the week, students take a field trip related to their course topic.

Tackling Local Challenges

The city of Denver and the Daniels College of Business partnered in an effort to develop solutions in the areas of housing, transportation and workforce development. Faculty and staff from Daniels helped guide 100 local executives through a workshop intended to spark ideas and encourage positive collaboration.

Dreaming to Help Others

As a first-generation student, the daughter of immigrants and an immigrant herself, Yesenia Arreola faced obstacles while pursuing her master’s in social work. Despite initially planning on achieving a degree in business or accounting, she decided to help people who believed a college education was out of their reach.

Alumni Cheer On Pioneers

Though many of our graduates spend their post-college careers far from Denver, the DU community provides ample opportunities for fun and support. The strength of that community came through as alumni from Portland to Atlanta gathered to watch the DU Pioneers win their eighth NCAA hockey championship.

IMPACT 2025

Led by Chancellor Emerita Rebecca Chopp, IMPACT 2025 is a strategic plan that renews the University's commitment to inclusivity and academic excellence. The plan is the the direct result of 18 months of collaboration and thousands of interviews with students, faculty, friends and community partners.

Global Peace Studies

A pair of million-dollar grants from the Carnegie Corporation of New York support the Sié Chéou-Kang Center's studies on global peace and security. The grants pay for two projects studying the factors that lead to peaceful communities and inclusion and their effects on violence, peace building and governance.

Examining the Latin@ Vote

Our Latino Leadership Institute is working to understand Colorado's growing Latin@ population and how it affects both local and national politics. They've collected new data on the Latin@ community’s diverse demographics, preferences, voting behavior and never before released data about Latin@ millennials.
