Promoting Mental Health

DU MIND is a student organization dedicated to suicide prevention, the promotion of help-seeking behavior on campus and awareness of mental health issues. “It serves an important purpose by bringing students together ... and letting them know that it’s OK and safe to seek help,” says founder Amanda Pennington.

Green Room Certification

All the little things people do can make a big difference. That’s the message from DU’s Center for Sustainability as it revamps its Green Room Certification program. The idea is to get students to make sustainable decisions while in the residence halls, with the hope that they'll continue thinking green once they move off campus.

Celebrating Our Champions

“You have made this city so very proud this weekend,” said Denver Mayor Michael Hancock as the community celebrated a national championship for the DU hockey team. Approximately 3,000 fans came out to Magness Arena to congratulate the Pioneers for defeating Minnesota-Duluth 3-2, marking the program's eighth championship.

Developing Women Leaders

The Colorado Women’s College at the University of Denver launched a new multidisciplinary academic and co-curricular program to develop young women as leaders. The goal is to support women by focusing on leadership skills and workplace readiness that meet the demands for a gender-inclusive 21st century.

Service For Spring Break

Over spring break, members of the DU Global Medical and Dental Brigade ventured to rural Nicaragua to provide water and medical relief to communities in need. Students triaged patients, shadowed doctors and dentists during consultations, assisted in the pharmacy and led educational sessions.

Global Mental Health

Graduate School of Professional Psychology students provide mental health services globally through the International Disaster Psychology summer program. They work to help victims of human trafficking and genocide in Bosnia, Cambodia, Chile, Liberia, Malawi, Nepal, the Philippines, South Africa and Sri Lanka.

Home Builders Academy

Our Burns School of Real Estate and Construction Management teamed up with local homebuilder industry partners to create a home building learning lab. The lab, called the Burns School Home Builders Academy, provides a hands-on learning experience for our construction management students.

Black Women Lead

DU alumnae created the Black Women Lead Empower Aspire and Dedicate Summit, or BW LEAD, for black women from Denver high schools to come to DU’s campus. They participate in activities and sessions about what it means to be a black woman and a leader.

A Trip to the Movies

High school students learned important lessons about women in engineering and computer science during a visit to a local movie theater. The students enjoyed a private screening of the critically acclaimed movie *Hidden Figures*, followed by a panel discussion with DU students and alumni.

Alum First Latina Speaker

DU Alumna Crisanta Duran, who graduated in 2002 with degrees in Spanish and public policy, is the first Latina speaker of the Colorado House of Representatives. She's working on such growth-related issues as a state-wide transportation plan and ensuring Colorado invests in boys and girls across the state.
