General Traffic Regulations

The speed limit for motor vehicles on University property is:

  1. 5 miles per hour in garage parking areas, unless otherwise posted.
  2. 10 miles per hour in surface parking areas, unless otherwise posted.
  3. 15 miles per hour on all campus streets, roads, and driveways, unless otherwise posted.

Pedestrians have the right-of-way AT ALL TIMES.

Operating or parking motor vehicles on sidewalks, lawns, & undesignated parking areas is prohibited. Vehicle owners may be held liable for damage caused by driving or parking on or in a non-designated area with one exception, scooters or motorized bikes are briefly allowed to operate on campus sidewalks and pathways in order to access scooter parking areas. Likewise, university owned and operated motor vehicles may operate on university sidewalks and pathways when needed to accomplish university business.

The operator and/or owner of any motor vehicle shall obey the instructions of all applicable traffic control devices.

No person shall interfere with any traffic or parking enforcement operation, the operation of any traffic control device, ignore any officer’s signal or instruction, tamper with, destroy, or deface any traffic control device. Violators are subject to the assessment of fines and University disciplinary action.

Intentional destruction of or damage to University a traffic control device is considered an act of vandalism and will result in both fines and disciplinary action.

All motor vehicles on University property shall be operated or parked in conformance with all Parking & Traffic Rules and Regulations of the University of Denver, all laws of the City of Denver and the State of Colorado.

No motor vehicle shall be operated in such a manner as to interfere with University operations or to disturb the peace and quality of life of the University community.

No person shall park or operate a motor vehicle on University property in such a manner as to cause damage to any University property or grounds.

The University of Denver reserves the right to remove motor vehicles from its property, without notice, for reasons including, but not limited to, the following: (a) apparent abandonment; (b) failure to display a valid or current license plate; (c) parking in such a way as to constitute a hazard to vehicular or pedestrian traffic or to the movement and operation of emergency equipment; (d) parking privileges of the owner/operator having been revoked; (e) maintenance repairs to facilities; (f) 4 or more unpaid violations; (g) the parking lot or area is designated an immediate tow-away zone. The owner and/or operator will be responsible for all costs involved in the removal of such motor vehicle. The University of Denver will assume no responsibility for damages to any vehicle, loss of vehicle, or any article left therein of vehicles that were ordered removed from University property. The tow companies assume this responsibility.

The driver and/or registered owner of a vehicle is responsible for any and all citations assigned to it.

Powered and non-powered recreational vehicles including, but not limited to, skateboards, motorized skateboards, hover boards, roller skates, and inline skates shall not be operated in or on University parking lots or structures. These areas are meant for automotive and the use of these types of vehicles in such high density areas is not safe.
