Before Starting the Hiring Process

Learn what steps to take to move a benefited position through the posting and hiring process.

This article applies to Hiring Managers, Business Officers, and HR Partners.

Completing these steps prior to starting the hiring process will help to move your position through the posting and hiring process quickly.

  • Contact your Dean, Director, and/or Business Officer regarding divisional processes that might affect this hire. Many divisions have internal guidelines that they will require you to follow.

  • Contact your division's HR Partner and the Compensation Analyst in HRIC about your position. Provide a job description and an organizational chart for your division. The Compensation Analyst will look at other similar positions on campus and within the external market to determine a range of pay for the position and review your job description.

  • If creating a new position, make sure that you have approval to do so in writing from your Department Approver and The Office of Planning, Budget and Analysis. These approvals can be in the form of a memo or email.

  • If you are changing anything about a position that you are posting make sure you have pre-approval, in writing, from all of the parties listed above.
